Program CEO/Coach

I'm a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army and an 18-year high school coaching veteran. The Southern Maryland Allstars boys basketball AAU program has been in existence since 2006. Our program has propelled success throughout the high school and college levels. More importantly, we help shape young men with the values of education, leadership, family, and maturity.

On the basketball front, we are teachers of the game, from basic fundamentals to ensuring our kids understand what "passing the eye test" looks like for each division of college basketball. Our kids will understand how to recognize defenses, incorporate advanced offensive skills into game situations, and, where appropriate, allow kids to explore undeveloped skills in competitive game situations.
We strive to find a good balance between player development and winning. In other words, winning at all costs is not the goal of this program. Therefore, we do not duck competition. In some cases, we will encourage certain players to "play up" to face better competition instead of having them outperform at their present age level. Playing time is NOT allocated equally. Players will earn their playing time. We expect our kids to be able to contribute to their varsity teams at a high level. None of our current coaches have any kids on their teams. We work with the parents to understand goals relative to this balance. Check out our testimonials. We are not a big shoe brand but we teach just as well!
